Bow Bowing is one of the suburbs surrounding Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Bow Bowing is located 55 kilometres south-west of the Sydney’s central business district, under the local government area of the City of Campbell town and is also a part of the Macarthur region.
History:
This suburb got its rather unusual name from a local creek. It is believed that the creeks name came from aboriginal origin. It used to be Boro Borang but was later corrupted into Bow Bowing which was then used for the current name, this suburb was established in 1975. For several hundreds of years, the Bow Bowing was known as Saggart’s Field in honour of a local family. So there was a school built in 1866 which was named as Saggart Field School but was then renamed to Minto Public School in 1884.
The entire land area was purchased by the Housing Commission in 1976 with their plan to build one thousand home in a smaller area of this new suburb. But there were several local concerns particularly about the Housing Commission Developments in the area halted the program and the plan was then abandoned. Then the lands were later on sold to private developers who started build the first 350 homes all over. This development just kicked off only in 1990.
