Busby
Busby is a place located at the outskirts of south western Sydney. It belongs to the state of New South Wales, Australia and under the local governance of Liverpool City. It is just 37 kilometres away from south west of Sydney’s central business district. Busby is surrounded by the following suburbs: Heckenberg, Miller, Green Valley, Hinchinbrook and Bonnyrigg.
History:
Busby was named after the “father of the Australian wine industry” and the pioneer viticulturist – James Busby who was born on 1801 and died on 1871. He was a Scottish gentleman who arrived in Sydney on 1824 bringing with him the future of Australian Vines. He taught Viticulture at the Male Orphans School at Bald Hills near Liverpool, but in 1851 the school was closed. In all those years he was granted 2000 acres of land and was able to produce a manual that helped spread his practical knowledge on Viticulture. His greatest contribution was when he brought hundreds of varieties of vines from Europe which was grown in Sydney’s Botanical Gardens. That was the start of the flourishing Australian vineyards.
James Busby was the son of an equally great man named John Busby (1765-1857) who was the engineer behind the construction of Sydney’s second water supply – the Centennial Park to Hyde Park, Sydney.
The suburbs of Busby later on became a part of the Green Valley housing estate that was developed in 1960s and 1970s.

Sydney’s western suburbs including Busby has drier climate and on summer has hotter temperature of around 2 to 5 degrees than Sydney itself.
Schools:
There are two Primary Schools in Busby – the Busby School and Busby West Public School. Then they have one High School which is called the James Busby High School. The place also has one public school – the Green Valley Public School. A famous discuss throw record of 20 metres in 2006 was made by a student of Busby Public School whose name was Ricky Smith.
