Pest Control Warragamba

Warragamba

Warragamba is one of the many towns of New South Wales, Australia. It is under the local government of Wollondilly Shire. It is situated on the eastern part of the Blue Mountains. It takes one and a half hour drive, which is basically around 56 kilometers away from the western part or the Central Business District of Sydney. It is surrounded by the localities of nearby Megalong Valley, Wallacia and Silverdale.

The origin of the name Warragamba came from the aboriginal words or “warra” and “gamba” which basically mean water running over rocks.

The history of this place dates back in 1804 when a man named George William Evans discovered the existence of Warragamba River that flows from the site of the famous Warragamba Dam.

This town was developed to serve as a worker’s settlement while the construction of the dam was in progress. The Warragamba dam, produces 97% of the water supply of Sydney, which only means Sydney depends so much on its capacity. Later on constructions of establishments such as homes, shops, schools and many other structures were built for the settlers in it.

Despite the completion of the dam, many workers no longer left the town but instead bought houses from the Water Board and settled permanently in it. A Warragamba Public School was built but after the dam was completed the school was demolished sometime in the 1960’s. Even if it was taken down, still a celebration of its fiftieth anniversary was held in 1998.

The town is not much like other Australian towns where streets have names. Instead, Warragamba has street named with numbers like, the First Street and the Eighteenth Street.

The ongoing improvements of the Warragamba Dam has reduced the number of weekend visitors of the town. Around 2001 there was a wide Bushfire that burned thirty homes including business establishments. It was also a home to the well known African Lion Safari that ended in 1991.

The newest Warragamba Dam Visitor Center as well as the Haviland Park, became two of the favourite tourist attractions in the area. Its superb facilities for picnic is one of the reasons why people are attracted to it.

In the 2007 Census, Warragamba was reported to have a total population of 1,197, composed of 58.14% married ones, 34.81% not married and 7.06 married in de facto marriage. The average median age is 33 years old. Most of the population works as clerical and administrative workers.
