Bossley Park
Bossley Park is part of the Greater Western Sydney region, New South Wales Australia. It is a suburb of Sydney that is located 36 kilometre west of the Sydney central business district. It is under the local government area of Fairfield City.
History
There were Aborigines from the Cabrogal tribe who has lived in the Fairfield area for more than 30,000 years. In the early 1800s, an English chemist John Brown Bossley (1810-1872) came to Australia on 1838 to practice Chemistry in Sydney. Together with his wife they were able to purchase a large piece of land on Smithfield Road and later on became the first owners of several stores in Cabramatta. Then he built an English style farmhouse which he named as Edensor, naming it after the village in Derbyshire, England. The northern region of Edensor was later known as the Bossley Park. After his death around the late 1890s, the Bossley estate was sold and subdivided. Like other growing communities, a public school – Bossley Park public school was opened in 1890. There was also a post office that was established in Quarry Road in 1895 followed by a Progress Association Hall in 1927. After the war, migrants came to the area. Settlers were mostly Italians then. Later on, they helped flourish market gardens and poultry farms.
Climate
The New South Wales state implements their daylight saving time starting on the first weekend of October and ending on the last week of March. This activates an additional one hour ahead making it 11 hours of GMT on these months. Nearby cities within the same latitude (+/-) of Sydney are expected to indicate the same climate as expected with Sydney. Basically in the Summer months (December to February) temperature is 21° to 23° Celsius, Autumn (March to May) temperature is 15° to 21° Celsius, Winter (June to August) 12° to 14° Celsius, and on the Spring (September to November) 16° to 20° Celsius. Even if the latitude of the place determines the climate, other external factors such as ocean temperature, winds, land mass and distance from coast may vary.
Education
Bossley Park has several schools including the government schools of Bossley Park High School, Bossley Park Public School and Prairievale Public School. There is also one school operated by Catholics which is the Mary Immaculate Primary School.
Sport and recreation
The famous landmark of Bossley Park, the Club Marconi was built in 1956. This is the home stadium of the multi-winners of national soccer competition – the Marconi Stallions.
Religion
The residents of Bossley Park are mostly Catholics (Latin and Eastern). The 2006 Census states that Bossley Park’s residents are mostly Catholics (Latin and Eastern) coming in at 51.7% of the total population followed by the other religions Buddhism at 8.3%, Anglicans at 6.9%, Eastern Orthodox at 5.8%, and those with no religion at 4.3%
