Cabramatta West is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales Australia’s that is located 32 kilometres south west of Sydney central business district. It belongs to the local government area under the City of Fairfield. Not to be confused with Cabramatta, which is a separate suburb on its east side part. It is surrounded by the nearby suburbs such as Abbotsbury, Bonnyrig, Bonnyrigg Heights, Bossley Park, Cabramatta, Canley Heights, Canley Vale, Carramar, Cecil Park, Edensor Park, Fairfield, Fairfield East, Fairfield Heights and Fairfield West to mention a few.
History
Formerly this area was part of the suburb Cabramatta. The history of the naming of this area was attributed to the Bull family who called their estate as the Cabramatta Park. This place had a 100 acre land alongside a creek that was formerly granted to a man named Joseph Hoy, before it became the home of the Bull family. The word Cabramatta as claimed by Reverend James Dunmore as an aboriginal word that means ‘fresh tasty water grub and a point or a jutting out piece of land’. The name became widely known throughout the surrounding area. The place also became known as an agricultural place.

The big shopping area of this suburb is located in the ‘Cooks Hill’.
