Pest Control Greendale

Greendale

Greendale is a place with a very small population in the state of New South Wales, Australia which is located in the continent of Oceania. Warragamba, Wallacia, Luddenham and Silverdale are the cities and places near Greendale. The closest major cities to Greendale based on population include Sydney, Wollongong, New Castle, Canberra and Melbourne. In terms of population, there are more or less 826 people living in Greendale. Most of the residents now are fulltime technicians and trades workers.

The tribe of Mulgoa of the Darug folks was the traditional custodians of Greendale. The place was a home for these people but there are some disputes regarding this account in the history of Greendale. George Caley, an English botanist from England was the first explorer to visit the area. Caley was appointed as a botanical collector in Greendale, New South Wales in 1798 and was given a passage to Sydney aboard the HMS Speedy. He arrived in the area on April 15, 1800. Land grants were given at the year of 1811. Early land owners were not typically male since one of the land grants, a 500 acre property, was given to Mary Birch. Mary Birch, wife of the paymaster John Birch, named her property Greendale, where the suburb got its name. Another grant was given to Ellis Bent on the same year. Ellis Bent was the deputy judge advocate between 1810 and 1815. A recreational area on Nepean Rivert in the area is named after Bent. The district of Greendale was thriving wheat – growing district for many years from about 1815 to 1861. It continued to be a huge wheat farming community; until 1861 came when the first of the wheat rust hit their crops, which was followed by another one in 1863. This disaster, of course marks the end for Greendale although some farmers tried other source of income. A lot of young farmers however migrate to the mountains for better opportunities and only few people remained in Greendale. The bakery in the area closed in 1907; while the post office also closed in 1915. The school closed in about 1925. A severe fire outbreak moving down which started from Bents Basin in 1939 damaged and destroyed all the old buildings in Greendale, except for St. Mark’s Church.

Like the most of the Sydney suburbs, Greendale falls in the humid subtropical climate. It said to be warmer than Sydney that gives way to farming as the main source of income. This type of climate is characterised by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters.

Greendale was sold in 1928 To William Matchett. The ownership was then passed to the Matchett sisters, who eventually sold it in the early 1960s to Mr. Wolstenholme. Wolstenholme however, subdivided the land into 25 acre lots for sale. Aside from St. Mark Church which was the only building who survived after the fire in 1939, a roman catholic church was also built in Greendale. The Roman Catholic Church was still in use till 1900 but was later moved and joined to an old house in Wallacia.
