This is in the local government areas of Holroyd in the Parramatta City. It is a part of the Greater Western region of Sydney. It uses a postcode 2161. The different areas that are located around the Guildford suburb include Woodpark, Guildford West, Yennora, Old Guildford, Chester Hill, South Granville, Merrylands and Merrylands West.
The name of the suburb was named after Earl of Guildford. It was named on 1837 but prior to the European colonisation, the Bidjigal clan was the first group to live in the present area called Guildford. While the Dharug people lived across the Cumberland Plain. They lived in small groups within that area including the area now known as Woodville Ward. In 1817 Lieutenant Samuel North was given 640 acres of land as part of the European settlement. He then named his property Guildford because he had close ties with the Earl of Guildford. To show its strength and development, a small hamlet was developed in the area which is around the Woodville Road. And in 1870 a school was established. There were also some churches that have been developed in the 1880s. There was able a railway station that was opened in 1876. There was a new settlement that was developed around it and the original settlement became the Old Guildford.
